Active Media has just launched a new 1.8″ ZIF SSD designed for small spaces…and compatible with the HP Mini 1000.

The Sabertooth ZT 1.8″ ZIF solid state drives from Active Media promise speeds of around 100mb/s Read and 85mb/s Write, which will be very good considering PATA ZIF speeds are limited especially in small, 1.8″ drives. The new drives will be compatible with the HP Mini 1000–which is the only HP Mini that uses PATA ZIF 1.8″ drives.

(Update) After speaking with Jerry at Active Media, he informed me that the Sabertooth actually uses a SATA controller and a SATA to PATA bridge–which increases speeds. Compared with other PATA SSDs that only use PATA controllers.

The 64GB model sells for $290, 32GB model for $170 on Amazon.
