HP 2140 6 cel batt and Mobile Broadband card- my experience

New postby rkforum » Mon Jun 22, 2009 10:32 am

hey fellow 2140 owners

Thought I'd give you some reports on 2 items i'm using wtih my 2140

1) 6 Cel battery

Bought a 6 cel battery off of ebay: http://stores.shop.ebay.com/NewItemExpr ... 40+6+cell+

It is awesome! 5-6 hours with mobile broadband on with laptop in power saver mode. Also, I like the shape of the battery- the extra 3 cells are "directly under" the body of the laptop, rather than jutting out the back- meaning it increases the thickness of the laptop in back but not the overall width. It fits into my carrying case with the extended battery but probably wouldn't with other extended batteries that stick out the back.

2) Mobile Broadband
Sierra wireless Compass 597- this thing is awesome! Very small and slim usb-port based mobile broadband card. Doesnt' get in the way of typing or anything (I had tried a sierra wireless merlin 3x720 which was expresscard based but my right hand kept bumping it while I was typing, so I switched).

My HP2140 is now supercharged wtih these two items. Thought I'd let you know about both.

best regards

Your ebay link doesn't bring up anything, what is the model of that 6 cell?
I was debating whether to get a 3 cell because the 6 cell that comes with makes it so bulky. Your description of the 6 cell you got sounds like it would be a good replacement.

That seems to describe the factory 6 cell perfectly.

He seems to describe exactly what the existing factory 6 cell looks like. To put it another way.. I have the factory 6 cell.. and the battery sits flush with the "end" of the netbook.. so it can sit upright without falling over. It might jut out like.. 2mm.. but that is about it..

Sorry, looks like I was a double bonehead when i posted this

1) I thought I had seen a photo of the HP 6 cel battery and that it stuck out the back further- upon further investigation I agree that the battery I purchased is exactly the same shape as the HP factory 6 cel batterh

2) RE: where to purchase it- i can't find the entry on EBay anymore- but the eBay seller was NewItemExpress, they delivered quick and the battery is awesome! (I think it's from China)

Thanks for the info...initially I had filed it into gee wiz now I have to get another cell account??? Since I have a ATT 3G account Unlimited Data, for my HTC Kaiser I was reluctant to follow this up. Well a little poking around & I found tne Sierra Wireless RSS feed and subscribed. Lo and behold, turns our that ATT has essentially the same hardware called something different; USB mercury. Now I can have the nonexistant "HP 2150 eG" capabilities on my 2140HD with the same data contract. Happy Camper here..... :D

What is the best mobile broadband provider? I have to decide betweeen ATT and Verizon for my laptop? I am getting an integrated broadband card for my laptop and don't know who provides more coverage and best service. Thanks.

FWIW...my 2centavos is definately ATT from the choices given. I've found out since my earlier post, the ATT fees are 90$ over the data connect plan I now have, per month. I presently find myself debating on merely connecting my Cellphone/Computer to the existing data connect plan as opposed to a card/new data connect cost.

JMHO
