    Ubuntu 9.04 720p Video

Right now I'm watching a 2GB file in 720p format playing on VLC Player in Ubuntu 9.04 and it's playing without no shudder or anything. CPU usage is about 60% and I have it running at 1.6GHz. This is wonderful, if I tried playing this in Windows I'd get a world of problems. So if anyone wants to watch a HD movie in Ubuntu 9.04. I say go for it!

Yeah, I've noticed Ubuntu plays HD videos much better than Windows, at least on the 1000.

Hmm, this is strange. I've tried 720p Video both on windows and Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix and it didn't work properly. (VLC / Windows Media Player / Totem) Audio was OK, but only still Pictures.

Then i've installed CoreAVC on Windows, everything went smooth on WMP. On Linux i`ve compiled mplayer with the dshowserver (CoreAVC) and now it's also playing smooth, but only with this Codec.

Have you done anything special to get this to work on your Mini 110? I also have the Compaq Mini 110c (1GB Ram).

I'm just curious why it's working for you out of the box...

I don't use 9.10 Netbook Remix. I use just regular desktop version Ubuntu 9.04. In Windows7/XP I couldn't get 720p videos to play worth anything, even using VLC Player. In Ubuntu I use VLC Player. Never used any other type of player. I haven't done anything special at all.

Yeah, I've found that if the CPU Frequency is at 800Mhz my video is really choppy. Maybe UNR is set to CPU powersave mode?
