settings for HP recommended power plan

    Hello,
I have upgraded from Windows 7 starter to Windows 7 ultimate and i dont have the 'HP recommended' power plan anymore.

Can anyone please tell me what are the advanced power settings for the 'HP recommended' power plan that come with the preinstalled windows 7 starter? so that i can create it again in windows 7 ultimate, especially the processor power management and system cooling policy settings.
This is because although I have updated the bios to the latest version and removed the 'fan always on' in the bios, problem is that on the 'power saver' and 'balanced' power plans the fan stays always on, and on the 'high performance' power plan the fan is almost always off. <all these are when the netbook is working on battery>.

    Thanks for any help!

Re: settings for HP recommended power plan

Personally - I wouldn't follow the HP recommended power plan. It's very similar to the Balanced plan on all other Win7 configurations. As for the fan being on - I always like to keep my fan settings to "Active" regardless of power status. In my opinion, it is far worse to overheat a critical component than to lose approximately 5-10 minutes of battery life over the course of the charge.

My personal settings include (on Battery Power - Balanced Configuration)
    Minimum Processor Level - 5%
    Maximum Processor Level - 100%
Wireless Adapter - Medium Power Saving
    Sleep After - 15mins
    Allow Hybrid Sleep - On
Lid Close / Power Button - Sleep
    Dim Display - 3min
    Turn Display Off - 10min
    Display Brightness - 60%
    When Playing Video - Balanced

To be honest - Win7, unlike Vista or XP does an excellent job automatically monitoring the processor state to maximize battery life - to the point where so long as you're on a balanced plan (NOT HIGH PERFORMANCE - it maxes the processor state at all times) your battery life is going to main consistent to +/- 15% from ideal during a charge.

The Maximum Power Saving option really cuts down on all system functions. This should only be used when you need your netbook/laptop to be on but not in use (such as monitoring a stock price, or while watching news headline updates). It cuts down on wireless power, processor power, cooling, display power, brightness, etc...
