Safe to Use HP Mini 2140 Without Battery (AC Power Only)?

When I'm at home, I would like to use my HP Mini 2140 on AC only without the 6-cell battery attached. I will only use the battery when I'm out and about. Is this safe?

Just wondering since I don't want to have to buy a 3-cell battery if I don't have to.

Thanks for the help in advance!
