    Question about my new order

    Hello folks,

    In this thread I mentioned that I recently ordered a new 5103. It was originally scheduled to be delivered on 10/6, but today I got an email saying "We regret to inform you that your order ##### has encountered a delay due to a temporary material shortage." I know that the members of the forum can't predict what this means in this particular case, but I'm wondering what the collective experience may reveal about this situation. I called customer care and they indicated the new ship date would be 10/23, but they could not offer any specifics on what the temporary material shortage actually is. I'm nervous because I need to go on the road 11/1. Think I'll get my new mini before then?

    One other question, SGP has some protective skins for the HP5102, is the external case of the 5103 identical? (i.e. would they work on the 5103)

    Where did you order yours?

    I've been trying to order one for the last month.

    Today is the first day in the US I've been able to order by phone.

    Hi j0dan,
    I did order it on the phone with the HP SMB sales organization.

    I had been monitoring the HP website for the 5103s for the availability for the n550 processor since early September. The first day that I saw it there was Monday 9/20. I had tried to order it via the 'configure your own' option on the website, but I was shocked to see you couldn't get win7 pro. After a very challenging 'online chat' session I was directed to the phone line, where I was able to get win7 pro and all the other options I wanted.

    The order was placed and I received my confirmation email on that same day (9/20), with an expected ship date of 10/6. On 9/21 I got tracking information on the 'sleeve' cover that had shipped, and I have since received that line item. On 9/27 I received an email saying my shipment had been delayed. Although I've written several emails and phone calls, no other details have been provided.

    The n550 option has been missing in action on the website for a while now. I still don't see anything higher then the n475 proc right now. To be honest, the whole process has been a little frustrating. I guess that's life on the bleeding edge.

    This morning I received an email from the SMB sales organization. It informed me "Your order was successfully re-booked with the part that was launched yesterday". Sigh, I guess it looks like I start all over again. No ETA on the ship date. The goal was to have the unit in my hands by 11/1. I don't think the odds are in my favor.

    I do see the n550 option on the website now.

    To close the loop on this topic, my 5103 with all the right goodies made it to my front door on Oct. 20.
