    Post XP Strategy

It would be nice if I could turn over my hardware every few years to match the demands of the latest operating systems; alas, I can't.

Having said that, what strategies are available for my 1030 when Windows XP is no longer available. Will there be some version of Windows 7 that could thrive in this small package? If not, would some distro of Linux be the way to go?

I don't plan on purchasing any Windows applications for the 1030; I'll make maximum use of Open Source. That will give me upgrade flexibility.

    Any thoughts .....

from what I've seen windows 7 runs great on old hardware, even faster than xp for that matter.

XP is good until 2014. the mini's atom will probably self destruct long before then.

you notice how many applications are incompatible with XP and only compatible with VISTA (AKA 7)? maybe some skins and widgets. lol.

By "is good" I take it that Microsoft will support XP with maintenance until 2014? Is that the correct assumption?

pretty much free support until then. you'd be kind of pissed if you bought a new UMPC with XP and they dumped support in a few years huh?
