    Linux mint and XP???

    HP 311 @ 1.66ghz, 7200 RPM 160HD

After careful consideration (I'm not a grub bootloader fan btw lol) I downloaded Linux Mint after hearing such good things about it. I have it dualbooting with Windows XP which Streetfighter IV plays beautifully btw I have a few concerns why is it that I can install the same version on an ACER and see the battery remaining TIME but when it's installed on mine I can't? It the same thing with XP actually.

I once had a hacked version of XP and the battery time would display on the other computers battery but never my 311. Is there some sort of option I can hit in Linux to enable this feature because I've been unable to find it. I would love to test the battery life difference in this compareed to XP. I'm a student and frankly XP gets about 3.30hrs to 4.00 tops with battery life and the 4 is without me really using it lol.

Also one last time... I've had this computer maybe a little over 2 months.... am I the only one whose battery goes from 100% to 94% after taking it off the charger??? It seems like it takes a while to get off of 100% but in actually it's still draining and just drops straight to 94% I have yet to ever see my computer display 99,98,97,96, or 95% from a full charge... if I'm the only one then maybe I have a bad battery or something.... hmmm

Sorry for the long story lol.... (English Major).....

How the battery works in the Mini311 its still a mystery to me. I had the same problem. It used to drop so quickly and I have a month old netbook. What i would recommend is to lower your back light, set your wifi card to battery saver (instead of performance), and recalibrate your battery. I had some success performing the steps I mentioned. I even use Batterybar and it shows no more than 5 hours battery life. However on casual use (meaning wifi on, occasional browsing), it can go over 6 hours. Also what really helps is to set the monitor to shutdown after a minute instead of using the screensaver. I hope it helps. Now that I'm using those settings, my battery drops slowly to 98 and on. I dont trust Batterybar anymore because what really counts its practical use. BatteryBar and similar programs base their results on usuage which can vary quickly if i watch a 1080p video on YOutube. You right about Linux Mint, I couldn't find a program that showed remaining time. By the way, does vertical scrolling work in Linux Mint? I gave up on LinuxMint and Ubuntu 10.04 because of the scrolling thing.

Before we continue on our quest to having the best of both words, let me say one thing. You need to back up all important files. You never know when human error will occur.

Linux mint is new operating system then Ubuntu and it was easy in use. Mint is based on Ubuntu and take care of user that he get easy in accessibility, in installation and all. It was open source application. Windows xp is user friendly but not open source application. It was introduced by Microsoft and widely used by users.
