    Intallation help guide?

I still kind of new to linux. I used Ubuntu for a week or so but I notice that MIE is a little different so I need a little assistance or what not. Is there a good guide for installing/updating software? I have seen some for deban based linux and ubuntu os but many of them are not working. Right now I am trying to install the new version of adobe reader, flash, and openoffice 3.0.1. Thank you.

I keep getting an error like this. dpkg: error processing whatever software here.deb (--install):
package architecture (i386) does not match system (lpia)

I do not get what this means. I would like to have flash installed as for some reason it is not working? Like when I go to youtube I can not get the video to play no matter what I am trying. Any ideas?

While I have tested Ubuntu a few times and think it is pretty good in ways, I do not use it regularly nor do I recall what package management tools it has. BUT I know it has some, and using them will get you the best results: software packaged to work with the version of Ubuntu you are using.

This link may help- Ubuntu package management.

Ubuntu uses the Synaptic Package Manager. The Mie front end hides this and only uses the HP repositories (places to get software).

    However, it is not gone!

Hit Alt+ F2 to bring up a command window and type "gnome-terminal" without the quotes.

When the terminal window pops up, type: "sudo synaptic" again without quotes. ytpe your password. This is ubuntu's full pkg mngr. I've used it to install a number of 3rd party stuff. Open office...audacity...logjam and others. Conveniently....they populate right in the start programs applet!

    Hope this helps.
