    incompatible screen resolution

these devices come with fixed resolutions of 1024x576. i tried to download a HP printer driver but it would not install due to a minimum required screen resolution of 1024x600. any way to work around this ? i can live with viewing issues but not software incompatibilities. anyone else with this problem ? what was your solution ?

    Re: incompatible screen resolution

I ran into the same problem with a networking program I use (Network Magic). Their fix was to use an older version of the program that did not require the higher resolution. Not sure that will help you much. You can try calling tech support for the printer and they may can talk you through loading the printer device driver alone without the associated printer management program.

Also, does anyone know how to get the WIndows XP warning to stop? I seems to come on every time you boot up. This display issue is the only complaint I have about the 2140, otherwise it's awesome.

    Re: incompatible screen resolution

I have a solution for you.

Right click on the desktop and go to properties.

Go to the Settings tab, and click advanced.

Go to the Monitor tab, and un-check "hide modes that this monitor cannot display"

    Hit OK

Now you will be able to Select a higher resolution, such as 1152 X 864.

The screen can ovbiously not display all of these pixels, but by moving the mouse to the bottom or left of the screen, the display will pan, allowing you to scroll around to the other parts of the screen.

You should be able to install the program this way, and then go back to your origional resolution. If the program will not run in the normal resolution, you can switch back up to 1152 X 864 when you need to run it.

I use this approach to play a game( galactic magnate) that requires a minimum of 1024X768. Strangely, it will not run on 1024X768 with this method, I must select 1152X864 to get it to run. So I recommend not using the minimum required resolution, but a little bit more.

    I hope this helps.

    Re: incompatible screen resolution

I have the same HP 2140 as the Original Poster except with Vista Home Basic. I'm running into the same problems tho with installing some software that won't install on anything lower than 1024 by 768.

Not sure if its an XP only workaround to untick the "hide modes that this monitor cannot display" to pan the screen because on mine its greyed out in Vista Home Basic.

On my full sized laptop running XP its not greyed out. I unticked that box set it up with a higher res and it worked like you said it did with the mini. I thought that was so cool the way it pans because that would be perfect for what I need the mini to do. I really don't mind having to pan as long as I can get everything working normally without having incompat issues.

So is there something I can do in Vista to make that box available to get more display modes?
