Could you have accidentally changed the settings in IE8? It’s possible that IE has been set to use a proxy server…

In IE, click on the tools menu, then “internet options”, then “connections”. At the bottom of that screen, click on “LAN Settings” and ensure that “automatically detect settings” is selected on the dialog that opens and that none of the other options there are selected.

    Thanks Dylanparry,

I did as you stated but did not have any success in connecting to the net.
Upon futher review I notice or think my hp mini appears to be acting as a gateway for other pc's how can I confirm??
Or can I erase all network settings and configuration and then reload ?

I’m not entirely sure to be honest! One thing I can think of is that you can check in the network section in the Windows control panel, and look to see whether your network connection is set to share with other machines, or if there are network connections in there that shouldn’t be (eg. bridges and the likes). I’m not sure that any of that would be causing your problem though.

I presume you’re accessing everything via wireless? If so, then yes, you could try just deleting all the settings and starting over with your wireless connection. Again, not sure that would be the problem, but I guess it’s worth a try.

ummmm why are you using ie ??????

its slow .... uses HUGE amount of mem ... and is VERY un-secured

Mozilla Firefox was a good choice till a few months ago when Opera 10-11 came out ... Opera is about 8x10 faster than IE

Its up to you ... loose your time trying to fix IE or go the press the simple button and get software that actually works ....
