HOW-TO: Install OSx86 on the HP Mini

Hi, much of this is credited to Res over here -> http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php? ... 36084&st=0

I also want to say I didn't create any of this all the hard work was done by others so... thank them.

0.) Update your bios to the newest available (this worked with the F.05 F bios)
1.) Get a clean unpatched iDeneb 10.5.5 image and burn it to a dvd
2.) Via a usb dvd drive boot the install disk (press f9 to select boot device then f8 to start the installer)
---a.) If you can't boot the install you either have a bad image or your dvd drive is crappy.
3.) Format/partition your drive however you like via "Disk Utility"
4.) Select whatever drive you formatted for OS X to install to.
5.) Click the customize button on the bottom left.
6.) Under patches expand "fixes" and check acpi, cpu, and remove firewire, also under patches expand "chipset" and check the ichx fix. Under applications select "Kext Helper" and "OSX86 Tools"
7.) Start the install... wait... wait some more... and wait. (if the screen goes all blue and crappy just start over)
8.) After the setup reboots go through all the stupid crap or you can skip it by following the steps in my attached text file titled "loop_fix.txt"
9.) Download my attached file titled "Kexts.zip" and unzip.
10.) Start "Kext Helper" and drag all the kext's you got from my zip into "Kext Helper" enter your password and check "easy install"
11.) Use either "OSX86 Tools" or "Disk Utility" to fix permissions.
---a.) While you are in "OSX86 Tools" you can fix the "About this Mac" stuff and enable quartz.
    12.) Reboot.

EDIT: I removed the wifi setup step becuase this kext is now pre-patched and included in the Kexts.zip

If all goes well you should have a pretty functional mini-mac. This was tested by me on a 1035NR. It worked for me and thats all I can really go on. Best of luck.

    Known Issues:
1.) Audio doesn't really work... makes a "pop" at boot and thats it. *FIXED WITH POSTED DRIVER*
2.) Ethernet doesn't work, it is seen by the os but does not function. *new driver posted*
3.) Sometimes (not often) you may have to turn on your wifi just before OS X boots via the slider switch.
4.) After video drivers are installed brightness Fn keys don't work. (updating to 10.5.6 fixes this)
5.) Touchpad "tap-to-click" off by defualt. Can be turned on in the control panel.

    more to come... maybe...

I have a 1035NR. Dualboot XP. Do I've to update Bios to solve this problem?
I don't know why it isn't working for you but the bios might help, I do have the F.05 F bios on mine...

Re: HOW-TO: Install OSx86 on the HP Mini

Hello, I'm italian and I've the Compaq Mini 700 so I decide to try Ideneb 10.5.5 but I've some problems, first of all I don't have dual boot and I've to start the sistem with DVD boot, but the problems that I would like to talk is about the install of kext files.

When I install Ideneb for the first time (before I install the kext files) the resolution is 800x600, wifi is not functional, the mouse work (I have Logitech v220 cordless), the brightness (with key fn) work the only thing that I don't try is sleep mode (with fn+F1).

After the installation of Ketx files the resolution is 1024x600, wifi work, the sleep mode (with fn+F1) work, but the mouse don't work, the brightness (with key fn) don't work and the push of the touchpad (like the click of the mouse) don't work.

    Why?

Could someone here modify the kext files (because I'm not really expert) for this problems?

Re: HOW-TO: Install OSx86 on the HP Mini

Okay, this how-to did the trick. Actually I had done all of this before, except update the bios. Not sure if that was the answer, but I also managed to find a "cleaner" version of iDeneb. I suspect the other versions I tried had some additional mods that broke things. Even so, I couldn't get my DVD drive to read the DVD correctly - it would encounter disk errors on install, so I went back to the USB flash drive method. I carbon-copy cloned the iDeneb disk image to the USB drive. Then I installed Chameleon Installer on the USB drive (otherwise it won't boot the HP). I then booted the HP from the flash drive, did the install, no problems. Then proceeded per the how-to. Interestingly, my webcam works, as does my battery indicator/power management. I have no idea why. So the only open issues are (per everyone else as well):

no sound - just a noise at boot
no wired ethernet (not a big deal, but hey)
(oh - the brightness function keys don't work either, but I don't care)

I also get a kernel panic when I shut down. No idea why. But again, not a big deal. Everything else seems to work.

Thanks for the useful how-to - would be great to continue to update it as data comes in - for example, putting Chameleon installer on if one is using a flash drive.

    Best, CMOT

Hi, the touchpad tap-to-click has never worked for me. I'll have to add that to the known issues... the brightness via the Fn key is also a known issue with the driver... so I will add that as well. The usb mouse though I have no idea about, do your ports still work for other things?

Once the audio driver issue is fixed, I might just give this a try until then, audio is too important for me to be missing out on. Keep up the good work!

You need to go to the trackpad control panel and turn on touchpad clicking... Worked for me once I did that.
