Not considered painting, and I really hate advertising ebay stores, but this one looks impressive.

Its a vinyl sticker that goes on top of your mini (removable? yes according to the seller, reusable? prolly not). There's another ebay merchant, that sells the same thing, but this particular ebay store includes a clear coat on top of the vinyl decals. Too bad they don't have a design that would appeal to me.

Ive seen people with similar things on their laptops and phones in the past...and after a few weeks it just looks cheap. It gets worn with use...attracts dirt...and ruined the finish of some folks machines.

Mind you im not speaking for this store specifically...so they may have done something to prevent this...

Love it! Do you know the technique he used? By that I mean did he paint straight on the plastic or did he use some sort of primer coat first? I'm interested in giving it a go, but I want to make sure it goes down fine.

to the both who posted their pics: you did not remove the piece you painted from the computer? you taped off and kept the cover on? its very risky to to that, that is why i am asking...

It makes a lot of sense to take it off to achieve better results, but I don't see how you came to the conclusion that its "very risky" to tape it off. If taped off properly, there is about a zero chance of any paint leaking anywhere. Not to mention any potential leak would be around the bezel where you would need a MAJOR leak to possibly do any damage. I'm sure they both took the cover piece off though, I'd obviously recommend that as well, but I hardly believe it's "very risky" to tape it off instead.

You dont know if either took the cover off or not, that is the question that I asked, and what I would still like to know.

There is a risk involved rather it be an extreme risk, small risk, or as I said "very risky". The point is that there is A "risk" involved in painting anything (in this case a computer).
    1) You risk overspray getting in taped areas where the tape might not have stuck.
    2) You risk missing to tape an area that is not part of the cover and painting it.
    3) You risk bringing your computer to an area where paint or thinner could spill on to any and/or all parts of the PC.
    4) It is risky to assume that your tape is at 100%

IMO, if you have or plan to paint the PC cover while it is attached to the PC, you are taking a risk that is not worth taking.
With several years of airbrushing experience, I feel I can judge risk when it comes to painting something. Especially when that something is relatively expensive piece of equipment. Plus it just seems like common sense- kind of like not taking the computer with you into a tub, because it could get wet...

I just want to know if they took the original cover off and painted it, left it on and painted it, or (to more of my interest) obtained a replacement cover to paint.

Yea i left it attached when I painted but i took a lot of time tapeing up everything and what naught.

    The things i did where:

    Removed the battery.
With the mini open i taped up all the edges and ports
Then with it closed i did a second layer of tape.
I painted out side on a piece of cardboard
I didnt have any open containers of paint thinner or anything. Just some krylon fusion spray cans.

I understand the worry as i dont have the money to buy a new system but i feel that if you take the time and are careful then you shouldn't have any problems.

    Measure twice, cut once.
