Re: Does the screen get scratched when closed?

Mine has been scratched since about day three of ownership. Not extremely bad but it is marked exactly were the first row of keys are on the keyboard (Space bar row). I harvested two rubber "bumpers" from an old laptop and stuck them on the screen upper corners to prevent further problems. Never did have the patients for placing and aliening that cloth before closing the lid. This work nicely for me, to bad I had not thought of it before the scratches, but at least they are not noticeable during use.

I just stuck a removable screen protector on it and have never had a scratch. They work great and they are cheap. And yes, you can still use the webcam with it on, and also the mic will still pick up your voice for skype as well. Hope that helps someone out.
Yeah, well my mom says I'm cool!

Seriously, a cloth to protect a screen you shouldn't have to be protecting in the FIRST place? i use this... i use that...None of us should have to be bitching about, or trying to protect, what is so clearly a manufacturer defect. Mine wa trashed in a month just from the keys. sent it back once, now stuck on ugly rubber bumpers so they won't touch the screen. HP you suck.

Agreed. This is clearly a design flaw.
I too used some rubber pieces, but it didn't make any difference, the screen is scratched on several places. The lower part of the screen always touches the keys. I just don't care anymore, I treat the Mini as a tool, not a piece of jewelry. But it sucks anyways and tells something about the quality of HP's products. That and other problems such as VGA cables and webcam quality.
Personally I will look elsewhere when I am buying my next laptop.

I agree it is a design flaw.

However, mine goes everywhere with me and I use the cloth thing that came with it when it is in my bag.
I have no scratches on the screen, but if I don't use the cloth do note some marks which clean off (hence using the cloth as it would become a scratch eventually).

No scratches yet on my Mini 1000 (1030NR) after about a year, and no extra felt. It's seen some pretty intense use and has traveled to Tombstone, AZ with us in the car trunk in a case, so I think if it was going to scratch it would have by now. It still looks brand new.

    Here's hoping it doesn't start
