    BIOS locked via forgotten password

I forgot my password after changing it while drinking and talking. Funny? Maybe. Fun? No.
HP told me to remove WiFi, expanded RAM, battery. and RTC battery. I did that and put it back together and
that did not work. The rep then told me I must send it back to have it fixed for the low low price of $298 +tax because
it is cosidered consumer damage and does not fall under my 1-year warranty. Any and and all help would be appreciated
VERY VERY much!!! There must be a simpler solution. I thought HP had a master code to unlock BIOS anyway? Why would
they charge $298 for that? Is my rep and her supervisor ill willed?

Wow, expensive such a simple thing.

You can reflash the bios again, that should erase the old password.

look "bios repair procedure" in my posts of hacked bios... it helps. viewtopic.php?f=62&t=2898

    Code:
PS If you "spoiled" your BIOS :
    1. On a clean USB Flash Drive is formatted FAT16 or FAT32, copy original 3651F04.fd file, and rename it to 3651.BIN
    2. Disconnect power suply and remove the battery
    3. Press and hold Win and B keys
    4. Connect the power supply and press the power button
    5. release the Win and B keys after 3-5 seconds
    6. recovery process will begin to load the BIOS image in memory
    7. after few seconds computer start beeping every 2 seconds - a process of flash BIOS
    8. computer shuts down automatically after flashing done
    9. you have been saved :)

I will try that this weekend. If this works you are awesome because HP is full of it. One thing though, I cannot get into Windows, so where can I obtain 3651F04.bin? Do I rename it to .bin before or after copying it to USB flash? Also, does it really not matter if I format the flash drive either FAT16 or FAT32? I gonna check out your link... Thanks again. If this does not work I am done with HP. I think I'll go with Acer Aspire 1551 or 721 if this doesn't work. I'll simply recycle my HP 311. What a sad waste if I have to. http://dailylaptops.com/2010/06/15/acer ... n-hd-4225/

Re: BIOS locked via forgotten password

Nevermind. I had left the RTC battery since last week just to see if it needed to be out longer and put it back in a little while ago. It said CMOS was not present or whatever and booted to default. After and automatic reboot, it then booted to OS. BIOS password is gone!!! Phew... well there is a solution in case anyone needs it. Thank you anyways iceman, I am pretty confident your solution would have worked. The rep should have told me to keep the battery out longer instead of putting my Mini 311 directly back together(even ASKING her if it needed to be disconnected for a longer period of time). Well, at least there are two possible solutions to a password lockout and apparently one for bricking. I missed this sharp screen.

If someone still has a bricked mini they could try that. If it works great! Its something that should keep us more at ease when overclocking in the BIOS.

removing RTC battery does NOT recover a brick mini 311... I leave it for overnight and it doesnt work.
For normal machine.. removing battery for 5 minutes should be good enough to discharge all remaining power.
