12V car adapter for the HP Mini

Just FYI... if anyone's looking for a 12V car adapter for their HP Mini 1000, just as with the regular 120/240V AC power supply, one easy option is to use a 12V adapter meant for the Dell Mini 9 and change out the power connector at the end. I ordered this adapter: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0361556694 ...all of $17 shipped to the U.S...., changed the connector on the end, and it's working fine.

There are some other Dell Mini 9 car adapters on eBay that I'm confident all work fine -- I choose the one listed due to it being the most "streamlined" when I looked through a few.

    Jkoltner, you say

Do you care to share any details of how you accomplished changing the power connector at the end?

The 12V DC to 120V AC adapters work fine, and I suppose that if you multiple AC devices you need to power anyway, it's a more flexible solution. The downside is just that you have more cable clutter and that you lose some efficiency (going through two conversions), although this is really only a consideration if you're planning to run for long periods of time without the engine going.

As for changing the connector itself... see the thread here: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=88 ... it has connector dimensions, where to get them, etc. (If you don't want to do any soldering, you can just use a short adapter cable.)

i was just going to mod up the ac to dc adapter so it doesn't stick out so much. i read some information on it that you could run on it without the car being on. I guess that's good for times like tailgating or camping or even hanging out in your car right outside of starbucks. I think i might go towards this route. thanks for confirming!
