As companies hold cloud and mobility, manual network configuration has proven time and resource intense, as well as error prone. While Network virtualization offers a centralized control panel, but does not automate configuration and provisioning of physical network devices.
So, in a view to provide customers an integrated approach to automate their physical and virtual network infrastructure, HP-VMware have decided to federate the HP Virtual Application Networks SDN Controller with the VMware NSX network virtualization platform.
“Networks must be agile enough to enable the adoption of cloud and mobility while ensuring continuity,” said Raymond Maisano, country manager, HP Networking, Enterprise Group, HP South Pacific. Adding further, Raymond said, “Building upon our SDN leadership, the HP-VMware networking solution unifies visibility and automation of the physical and virtual network with a common control plane, enabling new application and service delivery in minutes rather than months.”
In this joint network solution, the HP Virtual Application Networks SDN Controller will also include support for VMware Open vSwitch Database (OVSDB) management protocol. This will enable HP FlexFabric top-of-rack switches to participate in the automated provisioning of the virtual network, which will be provided by the VMware NSX network virtualization platform.
HP also introduced two new programs named HP 5930 top-of-rack switch with built-in intelligence based on VXLAN technology and HP Converged software application. HP 5930 is designed to leverage the virtual and physical networks to work together as one entity. While HP Converged software application – running on HP Virtual Application Networks SDN controller unifies the visibility and control of the virtual and physical networks by leveraging the HP Intelligent Management Center (IMC).
Want to experience how this federated networking solution actually works and enables business agility while improving continuity? You will have to wait as HP 5930 is expected to be available worldwide in December 2013 while the HP-VMware networking solution and HP Converged Control are expected to be available worldwide in the second half of 2014.

HoneyBaked Ham Company founded about 40 years ago sells glazed hams and specialty food in 300 U.S. retail stores, where transactions increase as much as 1,000 times surrounding holidays. However, the company’s legacy structure lacked the capacity and performance needed to deliver real-time point-of-sale (POS) and inventory data imperative for managing seasonal demands.
It is the only reason why the daily results of the HoneyBaked Ham Company were delayed by 12 hours that further went limiting the ability to control production, inventory and sales, etc. It affected the company by jeopardizing profitability during the retailer’s most lucrative times of year. But, its one decision to go for HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage has totally changed its performance level in the market.
The HP technology has undoubtedly improved HoneyBaked’s decision-making accuracy and speed by eliminating delays of mission-critical data, even during peak sales time. Real-time visibility into sales and inventory data have improved HoneBaked’s forecasting and fulfillment capabilities, enabling it to more precisely meet customer demand.
After experiencing a big change in the company’s performance level, the senior infrastructure director of HoneyBaked Ham, Kevin Madsen said, “We couldn’t make it through another holiday season experiencing mission-critical data delays caused by our legacy infrastructure”. He further expressed his thought on how the technology helped his company witness a real twist in the performance, “HP Converged Storage centralized and improved the reliability of our data while eliminating performance delays to help stores maximize the customer experience by offering the right product mix and availability.”
HoneyBaked uses HP 3PAR Dynamic Optimization Software and HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage to non-disruptively add and rebalance capacity and system resources to handle changes in business demand on the fly without compromising performance.

The price at which the HP touchpad was selling has been put on discount on the HP website with a heavy rebate of $100. The device is also being available with additional $20 off on Amazon.
Although the HP spokesperson did not reveal sales figure, but the drastic reduction in the sale price had left tech analysts and bloggers pondering whether the HP has already given up its challenge to bite into Apple’s stronghold on the market. A huge slash of $100 in HP touchpad‘s sale price has clearly stated that it has become cheaper than Apple’s lowest cost iPad.
The sudden cut down in HP’s 16GB and 32GB versions touchpad has certainly drawn flaks from several financial institutions. A financial institution named Daily Finance.com has viewed the sale as a clear evidence of market failure, considering the criticism that came for the device due to slow processing speed, short battery life and lack of apps. While on the other side of the story, PreCentral.net has stated that instant price drop in HP touchpad could be HP’s plan to bring another big marketing push.
Notably, TV commercials for HP touchpad featuring celebrities such as comedian Russell Brand, “Glee’s” Lea Michele and boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, are telecasted non-stop since the device was introduced in the market.]]>
